International Yacht Vacations & Charters Advisory Board

Alev Karagulle
Alev Karagulle founded the London-based charter brokerage Crestar Yachts in 1983 and over the course of 21 years the company acquired a reputation as one of the market's leading international charter specialists. In addition to coordinating charters in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, Crestar Yachts also stretched further afield to charters in the Red Sea, the Seychelles, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Belize, French Polynesia, and Fiji. Alev served on the Board of the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association (MYBA) for seven years and chaired the MYBA Public Relations Committee for three years. During 2002, she steered the launch of the MYBA Web site and also the second developmental stage of the industry extranet system, MYBAnet. In June 2003, Crestar Yachts merged with Nigel Burgess, large yacht specialists, with offices in London, Monaco, Fort Lauderdale, Athens, and Palma. Alev is now director of marketing and communications for the Nigel Burgess Group, which manages an extensive portfolio of exceptional charter yachts over 130 feet.

Angela Connery
Angela Connery grew up in the seaport of Salem, Massachusetts, a city rich in maritime history. She has been sailing the coastal waters of New England with her husband and two children for the last 28 years. Angela's love for being on the water brought her to the world of luxury crewed yacht charter and since 1987, she has assisted clients in booking private yachts all over the world. Angela is a member and past board of director of the American Yacht Charter Association (AYCA) and also a member of the Charter Yacht Brokers Association (CYBA). She now owns and operates Angela Connery Yacht Charters, an independent yacht charter brokerage.

Ann Landry
Ann Landry was quite content with her career in ski area management in Aspen, Colorado when she took a dive/sail vacation on a charter yacht in the Caribbean. Little did she know that that innocent vacation would change her life. She went home, sold her house, moved to California, bought a 44-foot sailing yacht, and set sail for the Virgin Islands to join the charter fleet. She arrived at St. Thomas in August of 1986, just in time for the annual boat show and upcoming winter season. Fifteen years and 30,000 sailing miles later, she still loves her work and the industry. She has been a charter yacht broker for the past 12 years, and can be reached at Koch, Newton & Partners in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, the yachting capital of the Americas.

Diane Fraser
A preeminent international charter broker, Diane Fraser's understanding of the charter business comes from her extensive experience as a professional chef and crew member aboard power and sailing yachts. With two culinary degrees from London's Le Cordon Bleu and LaVarenne in Paris, Diane logged many sea miles and unforgettable experiences in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, and Far East. Eventually she served as chef aboard the 93ft Burger Invader in Southern California, and married the captain! Diane is now in her 18th year as a charter broker, working out of Fraser's Newport Beach office. In addition to serving as a Coast Guard Foundation director, she is one of a handful of charter brokers to hold membership and serve on the board of directors of the American Yacht Charter Association (AYCA). Diane is also one of the nine directors and owners of Fraser Yacht's parent company.

James D. Roumeliotis
James D. Roumeliotis is a managing partner of EastMed Yachting Partners, Azure International Luxury Yachting Escapes, and The Athens Institute of Sailing. Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, by Greek immigrant parents, James, who is trilingual, moved to Greece several years ago to get involved with the business of the sea - first with merchant and passenger shipping, then with yachting. An avid sailor himself, James joined forces with a Turkish partner to found EastMed Yachting Partners, which has become a preeminent force for premium integrated yachting services including charters, management, marketing, consulting, and sales in the Eastern Mediterranean region, offering affluent clients the utmost discretion. The company has also established links with international yachting firms to better serve their clients' needs on a global scale.

Jamie Edmiston
Jamie Edmiston is president of Edmiston & Company LLC. Based in Los Angeles, he is continuing the rapid development of the Edmiston name in North America. Prior to moving to LA, he was based in London where he oversaw the strategic planning for Edmiston in its European markets. Founded by Nicholas Edmiston in 1996, Edmiston, has been the fastest growing full-service brokerage house, selling some of the world's most important yachts over the last two years, including the two biggest brokerage deals ever - both yachts of over 100m.

Jennifer Saia
Jennifer M. Saia, president and charter specialist of The Sacks Group Yachting Professionals, has a vast knowledge of the charter industry. She joined The Sacks Group in 1990 and became president of The Sacks Group Yachting Professionals in 1994. She has attended every major charter show from Seattle, Washington to Marmaris, Turkey, inspecting hundreds of yachts and sailing vessels before recommending them to her clients, who include members of the Forbes 400 and 500 lists, heads of state, celebrities, CEOs of large corporations, and wonderful families. Jennifer is also an Associate Member of the Florida Yacht Brokers Association, and an Active Member of the Charter Yacht Brokers Association. She and The Sacks Group are very involved with the community, sponsoring events that benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County.

Jim Araiza
Recognizing a unique niche and opportunity, Jim Araiza elected to combine his business and finance background with his passion for yachting. Jim and his partner, Jana Sheeder, decided to remold their CPA practice into a yacht charter consulting firm. They purchased the assets of their accounting client, SailAway Yacht Charters, and in 1989, relaunched the company as SailAway Yacht Charter Consultants, Inc., with Jana serving as company president. By viewing upscale yacht vacations as an "asset," Jim and a team of white-collar professionals handle every aspect of a charter, from contract negotiations, to insurance protection, to arranging escrowed charter deposits. SailAway’s unique approach caught the attention of entertainment lawyers and agents, eager to protect their celebrity clients. SailAway quickly developed a solid reputation in the entertainment industry, and parlayed their role as charter consultants into marine technical advisers for commercials, films, and music videos. Jim is a former Certified Public Accountant and Certified Financial Planner.

Larry Ebbs
Larry Ebbs is the operations director for International Yacht Collection based in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He has more than 30 years in yachting with over 15 years in yacht management, working with some of the industry's largest companies. Larry has traveled and sailed extensively on his own boats throughout the world. He holds both U.S. and British captains' licenses, as well as being a certified chef.

Nick Jeffery
Nick Jeffery has been managing Camper & Nicholsons International's (CNI) global marketing since 1998. He has a unique mix of skills in yacht design, publishing, and the media. Qualified as a naval architect at Southampton University with a master of design from the world-renowned Royal College of Art, Nick has worked with top yacht designers. He also served a five-year stint as editor of Boat International. CNI has more boats under its management than any: a score of large yachts in build for clients worldwide, and many more at design stage, plus the financial backing and support of Rodriguez Group, a publicly listed company.

Paul Chamberlain
Paul Chamberlain grew up on the shores of Lake Ontario in Toronto. A keen sailor since the age of five, Paul now has over thirty years of yachting under his belt. He actively raced all the way into his late teens and throughout his formal education. After a couple of successful years in the hospitality industry, the urge to go sailing fulltime hit him in 1989. Everything got packed up and Paul joined a 60' sailing ketch in New England on the way to the Caribbean, and he's been working in the yachting industry ever since. He started off as a deckhand and quickly became chef on a successful charter yacht operating in the eastern Caribbean. He obtained his captain's license in 1991 and went on to become a charter captain, logging over 30,000 miles at sea! Now Paul focuses his talents on Global Yacht Charters' growing business and working with the many owners, captains, crews, and yachts in the industry.

Peter Croke
Peter Croke is an Australian citizen who worked for a number of yacht builders in Australia, Norway, and Holland before joining Merle Wood & Associates in 1996. He has been involved in the building and sale of many of the highest speed yachts ever launched (Moonraker, Bonita, Teeth) and many of the better full displacement larger yachts currently cruising the oceans of the world. Peter is also a member of the Merle Wood & Associates/Cavendish White charter team, which manages and charters some of the most noteworthy yachts afloat today. He has been in the industry for over 20 years.

Rikki Davis
With over 25 years' experience and time spent as a professional crew member, Rikki Davis knows the yacht charter industry from all aspects. She has cruised all the exciting, exotic areas of the world and has inspected the yachts in order to provide her clients with a firsthand insight. Although she specializes in the large motoryacht market, she also charters luxurious sailing yachts. Her varied clientele from all corners of the globe includes executives of corporations, entertainment celebrities, and royalty.

Sandy Carney
Sandy grew up in New England, where she spent much of her time on the water. She then spent school internships working for SAIL and CRUISING WORLD Magazines, which ultimately led to her first job out of college at CRUISING WORLD and brought her to Newport, RI, to live. The ensuing years led to other jobs, always with a marine bent. Sandy became a charter broker in 1992 and hasn't looked back. Starting as a broker for day charters out of Newport, Sandy also got her USCG launch license. Sandy managed the charter department at Little Harbor Yacht Brokers before joining the new international venture, Churchill Yacht Partners. She is a member of the American Yacht Charter Association and is the current commodore of the Ida Lewis Yacht Club.

Timothy R.B.Clark
After leaving school at 18, Tim Clark worked in a shipyard in Southampton, UK. He landed his first crewing job on the 65m KATALINA in 1989, which started 10 years on yachts. Tim held various positions on a variety of yachts, achieving first officer and captain, and cruised extensively in the east and west Mediterranean, the east coast of the U.S., the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Indian Ocean. He also earned a two-year HND in Yachting Manufacturing Technology and Marine Industries Management at Warsash Maritime College, UK, as well as a BSc Hons Degree in Maritime Studies. Tim has been with Yachting Partners International since 1999; he is presently Charter Central Agent for eight yachts as well as a full-time retail charter broker.

Tim Nelson
Tim's initiation into the boating world came early (at about 8 yrs. old), while working in his uncle's marina in Michigan. He has been around boats ever since from racing C class sailing scows on inland lakes to cruising on 100'+ motoryachts in the Caribbean and Mediterranean. He was a yacht sales broker for several years prior to entering the business world where he utilized his degree in accounting with a billion dollar corporation. He eventually realized that boats were a lot more fun and moved from Seattle to Florida to take on the challenge of building the large yacht charter division of Seven Seas Yacht Charters. Specializing in yachts over 100', Tim now spends his time traveling the world inspecting yachts and interviewing crews to find the perfect charter yacht for his clients.
